“I took the Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) course my senior year of high school. I believe it prepared me a very great deal for what was to come in my first few semesters as an engineering student in college. Although I don’t necessarily use the Inventor software for my 3D modeling, the general concepts that it introduced to me were pretty much universal for all other interfaces. This made the transition to other, and sometimes more difficult to use programs, much less painful. In addition, I would have to say the most valuable insight I gained from that class was the introduction to 3D rapid prototyping technology. This is still considered to be a very cutting edge tool in the engineering industry, and I’ve found that very few other students and even some experienced engineers are as knowledgeable in that area as I. I believe IED not only prepared me very well for some of the aspects that were to come after high school, but it also was a very fun and exciting class to participate it. I highly recommend any person interested in an engineering or technology career to take this class if at all possible; it’s definitely a worthwhile and stimulating use of your time.”

"I
really enjoyed Introduction to Engineering Design (IED). I found the
software provided easy to use and it's helped me as I've gone on and advanced
in my college courses. I also appreciated that it taught me the basic
elements and process that go into industrial and product design. I would
definitely recommend taking PLTW courses to any high school student.
However, I wish I would have know about the college credit opportunity
before I graduated."

"...what I remember... most was the teacher... He kept the class very interesting and made it simple and easy to understand what he wanted. Plus he really emphasized what was really important in that class (like the command line on AutoCad). The class really helped with the design of engineering and understanding that there was another view to things. You can't just look at something from one view, there were several things hidden behind or underneath it that was just as important (In means of objects).”
