Workshop #1. Best Practices within PLTW as they apply to Launch, Gateway,
PLTW Computer Science, Biomedical Science, and Engineering
Instructors: (Launch) Stephanie Valli- Parkway School District; (Gateway) Brendon Riggs - Blue Springs School District; (Computer Science) Lewis McKenzie- North Kansas City School District ; (Biomedical Science) Michelle Lawrence- Kearney School District; (Engineering) Dr. Jim Kreyling- Mehlville School District
In this workshop, participants will be grouped based on their desired pathway of PLTW. Facilitators will focus on best practices within each pathway, encourage collaboration, and promote the sharing of ideas for immediate implantation in the classroom.
Workshop #2: Integrating 3-D printing into the Engineering curriculum
Instructors: Jared Hook and Verne Leutzinger- Independence School District
Maximize the value of the investment made by your district and learn ways to integrate the 3-D printer technology into the engineering curriculum.
Workshop #3: Need help with the new IED Automata project? Get help here.
Instructor: Mark McAllister, Rockwood School District
This workshop will dive into this new project with a focus on the virtual design work in Excel and in Inventor.
Workshop #4: Learn strategies for implementing and assessing
Project Based Learning (PBL) style
Instructors: Rochelle Dyer and Jeff Beckner, Fort Osage School District
Project based learning (PBL) is the foundation for all PLTW pathways. This workshop will help participants develop a variety of implementation strategies and assessment ideas for current and future teachers as they practice PBL in the classroom.
Workshop #5: All things PLTW for Administrators and Counselors; including the
importance of promoting/expanding additional STEM education in MO
Instructor: Martha McCabe- Executive Director, KC Stem Alliance
Focus of this workshop will be the administrative implementation of PLTW in a district. Topics covered will range from descriptions of each course and how they relate to each other. There will also be information about the growth of STEM in Missouri.
